President David Chewey and staff have received a response to their work on the median that they never anticipated–the phones have been ringing off the hook with drivers who want to express their gratitude. “People have been calling to tell us that they love what we’ve done, that they feel the garden beauty gives them a break from their day,” says Chewey. “That’s the power of landscaping. Beauty can rejuvenate anything; even transform a bleak highway median into a landscape that uplifts the spirit.” Chewey adds, “It’s part of human nature to react to our surroundings. We feel what we see. When the landscape is bleak, we feel empty; when it’s alive with plantings, we feel reborn. When you rejuvenate the land, you rejuvenate the human spirit.” Garden Associates Landscape Architecture has planted something for every season. The location includes native plantings, such as inkberry holly, seasonal blooms such as pansies that welcomed this spring, a variety of annuals for summer, and mums for autumn. Says Chewey, “Our goal was to give beauty longevity, to keep this little bit of land alive and bright with plantings for every season.” Garden Associates’ Garden Care Group will maintain the site as they do commercial and residential properties, with proper pruning, weeding and cleanup throughout the seasons, ensuring that the site thrives and remains as beautiful every day as it was the first day. Adopting the highway was a way for Garden Associates Landscape Architecture to give back to the community. “We’ve been in Readington since 2000 and moved to our new location in January of this year. This is our home and the community our family.
